In memory of Christopher Price and BBC Liquid News

BBC Three 1st April 2004 - it was no April fool, the last Liquid News.

"Liquid News is dedicated to the memory of Christoper Price, the man who was and is the spirit of the show."

Christopher Price sadly died 10 years ago today. He was an entertaining talent who would've put Eurovision on the map throughout the noughties... After his death, the entertainment news programme Liquid News had a multitude of presenters including Paddy O'Connell and Claudia Winkleman.

The reflective highlights clip above brings back some poptastic memories of the early 00s featuring ScoochS Club 7, Nicki French, stars of stage and screen and Adam Rickett.

Titanic tunes that sunk without a trace!

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic on 15th April 1912.

Sadly, over 1500 people lost their lives. We remember the crew and passengers who did not survive the journey from Southampton to New York and salute the musicians who bravely played on...

Southampton taken from the Titanic Soundtrack.

Titanic has inspired many songs, famously My heart will go on by Céline Dion. Text och musik: James Horner and Will Jennings.

In 1981, this song attempted to represent Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Titanic - Fredrik

A bouncy up beat number... but it did not float to the top of the scoreboard, infact like its namesake sadly sunk without a trace. (Titanic was actually discovered 73 years later, while poor Fredrik is still waiting to be discovered internatinally...)

There are many tunes which have sunk without a trace over the years and today we harbour some of favourites which have hit Rock bottom.

This year Norwegian Sailors failed to sail to Eurovision in Baku instead they had to Stay in Oslo, Norway.

Sailors - Lisa Karlsnes
Text och musik: Lisa Karlsnes
and Tomas Eriksen.

In the nautical noughties of 2004 we saw the biggest sinking of a song - A Fame-ous Melodifestivalen schlager shocka when these sailors failed to even make it direkt to Globen.

En gång för alla - Nina och Kim
Text och musik: N. Arn, G. Eurén and K. Eurén.

With a degree of Déja vu, read more schlager shockas here.

Shakalakaboomboom! It's the Grand National Winner 2012!

Today is the John Smith's Grand National, live and direkt from Aintree, Liverpool (Home of Sonia)

Scissor Sisters - Only the horses
The new single released on May 13th 2012.

The Melodimen selected runners and riders Galloping home to the finishing line are:

Alfa Beat - 80/1

Alphabeat - Vacation

This 3 minute classic was released on 12th March 2012 in Denmark and UK. With the bright and bouncy oh oh ohohs, the clap claps, the teasing this is not a key change moment and a proper ending clearly the vacation was double booked for Baku...

Viking Blond - 125/1

Blond - Bara hon älskar mej
Text och musik: Stephan Berg

Sweden Eurovision Song Contest Entry 1997

(Let it) Swing Bill - 150/1

Let it Swing - Bobbysocks
Text och musik: Rolf Løvland

1985 Eurovision Song Contest winners for Norway, singing loud on BBC Song for Europe 1986 in English.

West End Rocker-fella street makes a Come back this year, although there is no sign of Silver by Nature who we supported last year.

So studying the form, there is altogether a meloditastic Planet of Sound - 40/1

Sir Cliff Richard will no doubt be offering his Congratulations to the winning horse...

More to life from the BBC TV series Trainer.

But our favourite Ryder and Runner in the night is....

Goodbye BRMB - We will be Free!

BRMB - 19/2/74 to 26/3/12

After 38 years, today marks the end of BRMB (the first independent local radio station in England outside London) is to be replaced in name by Free Radio.

Although the Melodimen claim not to have listened to BRMB since 1989, it is the end of an era as another iconic Birmingham brand name is lost to the airwaves.

BRMB will broadcast on 96.4FM to Birmingham and the West Midlands until 6:59pm today. Then at 7pm it will be free!

We will be free (Lonely Symphony) - Frances ruffelle
Text och musik: George De Angelis
and Mark Dean.
UK Eurovision Song Contest Entry 1994.

We will tune in and expect a big ending naturally. Some nostalgic jingles and reflective banter. Oh DJ, please do play that song again...

The question is, which song to go out on?

We suggest Lonely Symphony (We will be free) or 'getting to the Point' We will be free (Lonely Symphony)...

After which a big countdown to 7pm - a new fanfaretastic Free Radio jingle followed by...

Free - Dana International
Text och musik: Stevie Wonder.
Performed as the Eurovision Song Contest Interval Act in Jerusalem 1999.

Farewell BRMB - we will be free!
